A healthy, balanced diet contains a variety of foods. Your diet won’t automatically become healthier by cutting our meat. If you take on the meat free challenge you should make sure you:
· Try to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
· Eat starchy foods and fibre to give you energy. Try to get this by eating brown rice, beans and wholegrain bread.
· Watch your intake of fat and salt. Unsaturated fats from nuts and seeds are good for us, but saturated fats from fried food, chocolate and cheese is bad for us.
· Ensure you keep up your protein intake by eating pulses (peas, beans and lentils), dairy, eggs, nuts and meat alternatives.
